Vic: Qantas fails family test union

Qantas has been accused of denying part time work to mothers with young children.

A former staff member, LILY DE VRIES, says instead of allowing women to move to permanent
part-time positions at the end of maternity leave, the airline is only providing two alternatives
- resignation or full time work.

Ms DE VRIES is one of a series of witnesses being presented by the Australian Services
Union in their Australian Industrial Relations Commission case against Qantas.

The union is seeking orders forcing Qantas to implement job share opportunities for
employees in its retail section.

Qantas is arguing the commission does not have the power to hear the dispute.
