This followed an attack at the Tomaree high school in Salamander Bay, near Port Stephens, yesterday which left two girls in hospital.
The court heard the boy bought the crossbow and fitted the bolt with a sharpened huntingpoint designed to cause the maximum damage.
Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant TONY MCINNES told the court the boy put the crossbowinto a large suitcase, located a previous girlfriend and fired the arrow at her from just2.5 metres away.
