Fed: AHA asks govt to look at impact of bank lending on gamblers

The Australian Hotels Association has urged the federal government to look at the impact
of bank lending practices on problem gamblers.

AHA national executive director RICHARD MULCAHY says the association is pleased to
see steps are being taken by the government to address credit issues in gambling.

He says hotels don't advance credit to people and a holistic approach that includes
banks and financial institutions is required to tackle problem gambling.

The federal government says it will hold talks with banks and financial institutions
on issues such as ATMs and credit facilities at gaming venues.
