FED: DFAT upgrades Thai travel security advice

CANBERRA, Feb 8 AAP - The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) today warned
Australians not to travel at night near the Thai-Burma border following the murder of
a Melbourne tourist.

Thailand remained generally safe, although Australians should exercise care and maintain
a high level of personal security awareness, DFAT said in an upgraded security alert.

Bandits shot dead 23-year-old Kelvin Bourke and seriously injured his girlfriend Sheri
Macfarlane, 26, last week in a night ambush in remote northern Thailand.
